Buffalo, N.Y. - The Bowling Green men's soccer team cracked into the Mid-American Conference win column on Sunday at Buffalo with a 1-0 overtime victory against the Bulls. Senior Tony Malik netted the winning goal 10:45 into the first overtime period with an assist from freshman Burt Weaver.
The goal by Malik was his first since 1999 and the assist was Weaver's first at Bowling Green.
Both teams played to a scoreless tie at the end of the 90 minutes of regulation in a pretty even match. Buffalo led in shots attempted, 10-9, and in corner kicks, 7-6, heading into overtime. The one shot that was attempted in the extra period came off of the foot of Malik, which was the game-winner.
BGSU goalie David DeGraff had six saves in 100:45 of action while Buffalo's net-minder, Brian Wazniak, had four saves and one goal allowed. Malik, Detrick Matthews and Jon Hundley each had two shot attempts in the match.
This marked the third overtime match this season for the Falcons in just six games played. In those three overtime duals, BGSU is 2-0-1 and have not surrendered a goal.
