BGSU posted its first shutout since 1994 and the Falcons own a 2-0 record for the first time since 1985 with a 35-0 victory over Buffalo in the MAC opener for both teams. BGSU is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the MAC, while UB is 0-2 and 0-1. With the win, BGSU equals its victory total of 2000.
The Falcons' last shutout occurred in a 32-0 victory over Ohio on October 8, 1994. BGSU's 35 points scored also is the best offensive output for the Falcons since they scored 35 against Ball State in the 10th game of the 1999 season. Their season high last year was 21.
Freshman Todd DiBacco scored his first career touchdown, an 18-yard run with 8:13 left in the game to give BGSU its final score.
A thunderstorm doused players and fans (16,183) throughout a scoreless third quarter. The Bulls were held to just 17 total yards in the quarter
BGSU led, 28-0, at the half. BGSU outgained the Bulls, 160-112, and held UB to just 25 yards rushing.
A 40-yard punt return to the UB 12-yard line by Robert Redd propelled the Falcons to their fourth score of the half. Andy Sahm converted a fourth down and one at the Bulls two-yard line and Joe Alls scored his second TD of the night on a two-yard run. The Falcons capitalized on their third takeaway when Andy Sahm hit Robert Redd with a 12-yard pass with 9:54 left in the half. Freshman Keon Newson forced a fumble and senior Khary Campbell recovered the ball at the UB 31 to set up the Falcons third score.
Josh Harris capped off a four-play, 38-yard drive with a five-yard TD run to make it 14-0 with 12:20 remaining in the first half.
BGSU led 7-0 after the first quarter. Buffalo turned the ball over twice, including a 15-yard interception return by Chad Long. Both teams managed 40 yards of total offense in the quarter. Senior Kurt Gerling extended his consecutive games streak with a reception to 31 with a seven-yard catch in the first quarter.
Junior Joe Alls scored on a two-yard run with 13:20 left in the first as BGSU took a 7-0 lead. The TD was set up by a 13-yard interception return by Chris Haneline on the second play from scrimmage at UB's 23.
