KENT, Ohio -
BGSU HEAD COACH CURT MILLER
"I wouldn't be here today if (Kent State) coach (Bob) Lindsay doesn't give me a shot, 11 years ago, in this profession, as a young man in grad school, teaching activity classes here at Kent State. He's a great guy, and I learned as much from him in one year as I have from anyone in the profession. It was an honor to coach here tonight."
"I was a little disappointed tonight. Three minutes into the game at Bowling Green (Jan. 2), their staff decided to bail on their zone defense and go with a man-to-man. It was a good adjustment by them, but to our credit, I felt like we had made a lot of three's and gotten a lot of open looks against them. They haven't had to bail out of their zone much this year. We knew, going into tonight's game, that they would make adjustments and find a way to counter that, and want to play 40 minutes of zone against us."
"We are not the most talented team this year, but we have prided ourselves on preparation, working hard and overachieving. We have been in every single MAC game at halftime, and led all four of our home conference games at halftime. Clearly, though, (KSU) were very prepared for us, and took us completely out of our game. That was some of the best pressure zone against our point guard and wings that we've seen in a long time. We didn't have a lot of answers for that."
"To our credit, we won the second half. Kent State doesn't have a lot of subs [NOTE: KSU came into the game with seven healthy players], so we were playing the entire second half against, at minimum, three of their starters. I wanted us to fight and battle all the way to the end. I give our players credit for not throwing in the towel, especially in such a tough place to play. Our kids are a great group to coach, and they have unbelievable character."
"We've played with teams for a long time, but we don't really have a go-to player with Francine Miller sidelined. If we can't find ways to play with people for the entire 40 minutes, an eight- or 10-minute stretch can get us beat."
