Falcons Defeat Huskies, 91-61

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -

The Falcons' 30-point win over Northern Illinois Tuesday marked the team's biggest margin of victory this season ... the game marked BG's biggest win over an NCAA Division I school in over three years (since a 90-48 win over Grambling on Dec. 11, 1998).

BGSU's victory extended the team's current winning streak to 11 games ... that marks the longest streak in 38 years, since an 11-game streak in 1962-63 ... if BG can win at Buffalo Saturday (Jan. 12), the Falcons would have the school's longest streak since 1948-49 ... the school record for consecutive wins is 17.

BGSU is now 12-1 on the year ... that continues the best start to a season in the five-year tenure of coach Dan Dakich ... the best start in school history came in 1943-44, when that Falcon squad went 19-1 to begin the year.

Senior Brandon Pardon set a career best with 14 assists ... Pardon's total was just one shy of the school record of 15 ... that record is held by David Greer (Dec. 30, 1980, vs. Marshall) ... Pardon had 11 of his assists in the first half alone.

Senior Len Matela had a season-high 26 points ... that total fell just two points shy of his career-best total of 28 (set vs. Toledo on Jan. 15, 2000) ... he tied his career best with 12 field goals made, and set a new personal high with 20 field goals attempted.

Matela scored 17 of his points in the first half, including the Falcons' first seven of the game ... those seven points were part of 11 Matela points during a 16-0 BG run early in the first half.

During that first-half run, the Falcons held NIU scoreless for 6:04 ... after a layup by NIU's Leon Rodgers opened the game's scoring with 19:11 left in the first half, BG held the Huskies without a basket for a span of 7:39.

In the first half, NIU made a total of eight field goals in 21 attempts ... for the Falcons, Matela alone sank eight field goals in 12 tries in the first half.

In addition to his 14 assists, Pardon also had 10 points, for the sixth double-double of his Falcon career.

BGSU has started the MAC campaign with a 2-0 record for the second time in three years ... the 1999-2000 team won the first three conference contests.

Senior Keith McLeod had 15 points in just 24 minutes of action vs. NIU, making five three-pointers in the game ... McLeod has hit double digits in scoring in 12 of this season's 13 games, including in each of the last 10 contests.

Junior Cory Ryan had 16 points in just 16 minutes off the bench vs. the Huskies ... Ryan went 7-of-9 from the field, tying his career high in field goals made.
