Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference has announced its weekly divisional players of the week in football for the games played the week of October 19.
West Division
Offense: Josh Harris, Bowling Green, QB (Jr., Westerville, Ohio) against the league's No. 2 rated team in total defense, Harris accounted for five touchdowns and 350 yards of total offense in a 48-45 overtime win over Western Michigan. Harris ran for scores of 3 and 5 yards, the second score was the game-winner in overtime. Harris also completed touchdown passes of 18, 33, and 18 yards while successful on 20-of-39 attempts for 254 yards. He had a team-high 96 rushing yards on 30 attempts. He handled the ball on 69 of BG's offensive 92 plays. The win kept the Falcons in both of this week's major polls - No. 22 in the USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches Top 25 and No. 24 in the Associated Press Top 25.
Defense: Patrick Body, Toledo, FS (Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) came up with an interception and forced a fumble in his first start at free safety after being moved from whip linebacker as the Rockets beat UCF 27-24 in Orlando. Body also had six tackles.
Special Teams: Alex Glantzis, Bowling Green (Sr., Mentor, Ohio) blocked a 39-yard field goal attempt with two seconds left to send the game into overtime and the Falcons went on to a 48-45 win over Western Michigan. Glantzis also had seven tackles from his starting position on the defensive line.
East Division
Offense: Freddie Ray, Ohio, QB (Sr., Martins Ferry, Ohio) directed the Bobcats' option attack to a season-high 50 points and 351 rushing yards in a 50-0 win at Kent State. Ray himself had a team leading 68 yards on 12 carries, an average of 5.7 yards per carry, and scored two touchdowns. Ray scored Ohio's first two touchdowns of the game for a 14-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Ray led an offense that produced four runners with 60 or more yards.
Defense: Duran Smith, Marshall, LB (Sr., Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.) led te Herd to a 24-7 win over Troy State with 27 tackles, the highest total of any MAC player this season. Smith's totals included 16 solo stops and 11 assists. He also had three tackles for losses totalling five yards and one sack.
Special Teams: Curtis Head, Marshall P/PK (Sr., Shelbyville, Ky.) aided the Herd's 24-7 win over Troy State with six punts for an average of 43.2 ypk and by placing all five kickoffs insde the two-yard line with two of those touchbacks. Head added a 25-yard field goal and was 3-of-3 on PATs.
