FALCONS OPEN UP AGAINST TITANS
The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will take on a tough Detroit squad in the season opener for both teams. BGSU is coming off a 24-9 season which saw them earn an NIT berth and play in the MAC Tournament Championship game. The Falcons return no starters from last season and have just one senior on this year's roster, guard Cory Ryan. Ryan averaged 4.6 points, while junior forward Josh Almanson averaged 4.7, and junior center Kevin Netter chipped in 4.4.
The Titans return two starters from a team which finished 18-13 and also played in the NIT. UDM is led by senior guard Greg Grays who averaged 17.8 points last year and senior guard Willie Green who averaged 13.7 points. Last year, BGSU defeated the Titans 77-60 at home. The Falcons have won four-straight season openers, including an 82-78 victory over Mississippi in the Top of the World Classic last year.
DAKICH INKS NEW FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT
Bowling Green State University men's basketball coach Dan Dakich has signed a new five-year contract retroactive to last spring, according to Falcon Director of Athletics Paul Krebs. Dakich is 89-57 in five seasons and is second in BGSU history in winning percentage (61.0) and sixth all-time among MAC coaches. The Falcons have averaged 19 wins over the last four seasons, won the 2000 MAC regular season championship, advanced to the 2002 MAC Tournament Championship, and made NIT appearances in 2000 and 2002.
NEW STAFF
Former Nebraska player Andy Markowski and former Falcon DeMar Moore have joined the BGSU men's basketball staff this season. Markowski comes to BGSU from the University of South Dakota, while Moore returns to the Falcon family as its administrative assistant. Artie Pepelea begins his fifth year at BGSU and first as the top assistant, while Sean Bledsoe returns for his second year and is the second assistant.
FALCONS DEFEAT SHAWNEE STATE, 96-68
