CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University women's basketball junior Lindsay Austin has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Dec. 16). Austin earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Austin, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, shares this week's West Division P-O-W honor with Western Michigan's Kristin Koetsier. A point guard, Austin averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Falcons went 2-0 on the road last week.
Austin had a career-high 20 points in Wednesday's (Dec. 11) 76-58 win at IPFW, and also set a new career standard with nine field goals made. Three days later, she went 5-of-9 from the field in a 62-59 victory at CSU, adding a team-high four assists. Austin also had seven rebounds, including a game-high four at the offensive end, in the win over the Vikings.
Austin also made a pair of free throws in the final 21 seconds to help the Falcons close out the win at CSU.
On the week, she shot .640 from the field, making 14 of her 25 attempts. After missing the first two games of the year due to injury, Austin has returned to average 9.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals in five games.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller now head to Austin's hometown for this weekend's Bearcat Invitational. BGSU will face the host University of Cincinnati in Saturday (Dec. 21) action, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Falcons will face either UL-Lafayette or Savannah State in Sunday (Dec. 22) play. BGSU is 4-3 on the season, and the Falcons are 3-0 on the road after going 3-10 in road games last year.
