BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team lost to UNC-Wilmington, 72-55, in Saturday's championship game of the Radisson Suites Roundball Classic ... following the game, head coach Curt Miller had these words to say ...
BGSU HEAD COACH CURT MILLER
"Kim Griech had one of the best single-game shooting performances that I've seen in a long, long time. She carried us offensively throughout the night and, the more she made shots, the more we looked for her on offense. You could see it in her eyes. She was playing with a ton of confidence, and she wanted the ball."
"She was even a little disappointed when we would call a play that wasn't for her. You love to see that in a player, when they're feeling good about their game and they want the ball every time down the floor. She played like a veteran senior, and has been shooting the ball tremendously on the season. She really carried us in this game."
"I was really pleased with our first-half performance. We led for the majority of the half, and went into the lockerroom one (point) down. We felt like we had executed our game plan to perfection. That gave us, as a team playing its third game in four nights, some energy and emotion. If you dig yourself a hole early, it's easy to pack it in and say, 'we're tired, and we can't pull it out tonight.' But with the start that we had, and the tremendous execution of our game plan, we were very pleased that we put ourselves in position to win."
"There were two key points in the second half that ultimately led to the loss. One was UNCW's 13-2 run to start the second half, which put us down (by) 12 and got us on our heels. But, to our credit, I was pleased that we made two or three runs at them, and cut the lead to six points on three different occasions."
"But, the second big point of the game was that, after we had cut it to six points for the third time, we went scoreless for five minutes. In those five minutes, they went on a run and pushed the lead to 15. Then, the three games in four days caught up with us. But, with the exception of that dry spell, I am very pleased with our effort, and I felt like we played well."
"This (UNCW) is a very talented team. If we get that kind of effort throughout the season, we'll win some games. And, I believe if we had played defensively earlier in the year the way we played defense tonight, we could be 4-1 at this point. I'm very encouraged by our play this weekend, and I look forward to our games with IPFW and Cleveland State next week."
