This Falcon Era is One of BGSU's Best Ever
Since coming to BGSU five seasons ago, Coach Dan Dakich has molded this group of Falcons to become one of the best ever in BGSU history. With their win over Miami, the 2001-2002 squad became the 12th team in school history to win 20 games in a season, and just the fourth since 1962. It also marked the first time since 1943-49 when BGSU had six straight 20-win seasons, that BGSU has won 20 games or more twice in three seasons. The Falcons were 22-8 in 1999-2000. In addition, with 10 conference wins, the Falcons have posted their fourth straight winning season in MAC play for the first time since BGSU had five winning conference records from 1980-84. The Falcons 75 wins over the last four seasons is the most in school history during a similar period since BGSU won 98 games from 1946-50.
Fighting for Position
The Falcons are tied with Ohio as both teams battle for second place in the MAC's East Division. The top three teams overall in the league earn first-round byes and advance to Cleveland for next month's MAC Tournament Championship. Since the 1998-99 season, BGSU has the league's second best winning percentage in MAC games (46-23, 66.7%).
Falcons at Anderson Arena
Since the 1998-99 season, the Falcons have a 44-7 record in "The House That Roars", Anderson Arena, including a 27-5 ledger against the MAC. In MAC play at home this season, BGSU is outscoring opponents at 77.8 to 62.1. The Falcons (11-1) also have won 10 games or more at home for the fourth straight season.
BGSU and Akron
This will be the 30th meeting between the two schools with BGSU holding a 19-10 advantage. The Falcons have won four of the last five meetings in Anderson Arena. Akron Coach Dan Hipsher is a BGSU graduate (1977) who played basketball for the Falcons from 1974-77. Akron rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final five minutes to post an 87-86 overtime triumph over the Falcons one month ago in Akron.
