ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Pennsylvania scored three runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth, en route to a 9-1 win over the Bowling Green State University softball team Tuesday afternoon (March 12). The contest, part of the Rebel Spring Games, was held in Orlando, Fla.
With the win, the Quakers improved to 5-7 on the season, while the Falcons fell to 3-6.
UP junior Rebecca Ranta no-hit the Brown and Orange through five innings, by which time the Quakers had built a 7-0 lead. The Falcons' lone run came in the top of the sixth on a pair of doubles. Senior Holly Frantz led off with a two-base hit, and came home on a one-out double by classmate Natalie Phillips.
Penn scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth to take an eight-run lead and end the contest due to the "mercy" rule.
Senior Jessie Milosek started and took the loss for the Falcons, dropping to 1-1 on the year. Two other pitchers, senior Rebekah Tipton and sophomore Jody Johnson, also saw action in the game.
The Falcons were scheduled to return to action against Monmouth later Tuesday afternoon.
