NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge posted a 5-2 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team Wednesday (March 13). The dual match was held at the Northridge Tennis Complex.
With the win, the host Matadors improve to 8-6 in dual-match play, while the Falcons fall to 1-10.
BGSU's two points in the match came courtesy of singles wins by senior Devon Bissinger and sophomore Gaby Coello. Bissinger posted a three-set win over Rani Setiawati at the second singles flight. Coello beat Stephanie Chu in the first set at the fourth flight, and Coello led in the second set when Chu was forced to retire.
Coello, who did not see action in the fall, now is 5-3 in singles matches this spring.
Sophomore Lisa Maloney suffered a narrow loss at the top singles flight, falling in three sets to Tereza Simonyan. BGSU's other singles competitors were junior Alyson Gabel (flight #3), sophomore Jessica Johnson (#5) and freshman Laura Kokinda (#6).
In doubles action, the Falcons' top-flight team of Bissinger and freshman Susan Schoenberger suffered an 8-6 loss, as the host Matadors won all three matches. BGSU's other teams consisted of sophomores Coello and Maloney at the second flight, and freshmen Kokinda and Cameron Benjamin at the third level.
BGSU's spring-trip action will conclude with a Friday (March 15) contest at UC Riverside.
