NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Bowling Green State University men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to the University of New Orleans Wednesday (March 13). The host Privateers improved to 12-5 with the victory, while the Falcons fell to 9-6 in dual-match play this season.
UNO won the doubles point, taking the matches at each of the top two flights. BGSU's lone winning doubles team was the tandem of sophomore Milos Jirout and freshman Ian Bliss at the third flight. They posted an 8-3 win over Guillaume Dumas and Julien de la Metterie.
In singles action, the hosts won at four flights to clinch the match. BGSU's winners were Bliss and junior Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo. Lopez-Acevedo lost his first set, but rallied back to beat de la Metterie at the third flight. Bliss beat Dumas in straight sets at the sixth level.
Lopez-Acevedo now has a team-leading 16 singles wins this year.
The Falcons played without junior Geoff Hiscox, who was injured in Tuesday's (March 12) BGSU win over Southeastern Louisiana. His status is day-to-day.
"We had a lot of adversity going into this match," said BGSU head coach Jay Harris. "We just couldn't get through all of it.
"But, it was really good to go through the adversity. It will make us a stronger team down the road. This trip provided us with some great experiences. We have had so many tough matches and close matches that can only make us better come the conference season and MAC Tournament time."
The Falcons return north for a Sunday (March 16) match at Michigan State.
