Falcons Fall To Kent State In MAC Title Game

CLEVELAND, Ohio -

The Falcons had one player, senior Keith McLeod, named to the All-Tournament Team ... McLeod scored a total of 85 points in the three games in the tournament, just four shy of the MAC Tournament record (89 by Eastern Michigan's Earl Boykins in 1998).

McLeod had a team-high 20 points for the Falcons in Saturday's loss to KSU ... in addition, fellow senior Len Matela had 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds ... Matela had his second consecutive double-double, his 10th of the season and the 32nd of his career ... Matela averaged 17.3 points and 10.0 rebounds in the three tournament games.

McLeod now has 732 points in 32 games this year, for a MAC-best average of 22.9 points per game ... his point total is the third-highest in a season in school history ... McLeod now has a total of 1,872 points in his career, the second-most in BGSU annals ... Anthony Stacey (1995-2000) holds the record with 1,938 career points.

McLeod has scored a total of 492 points away from home this season ... in 18 contests away from Anderson Arena, he is averaging an incredible 27.3 points per game ... despite the loss to KSU, BGSU has an 11-7 record in road and neutral-site contests, including a pair of wins over "Top 100" teams in the RPI (Ole Miss and Ball State).

The Falcons now await their national postseason fate ... both the NCAA and NIT fields will be announced Sunday night ... BGSU is 1-5 all-time in NCAA Tournament games, with the Falcons' last NCAA appearance coming in 1968 ... BG has appeared in the NIT in 12 years, with an all-time record of 6-12 in that tourney ... the Falcons' last NIT appearance came in 2000 at BYU.

Five times in league history a MAC school has received an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament, and those teams combined for four NCAA wins ... the last team was Miami in 1999 ... the RedHawks won two games in the tourney, over Washington and Utah, to advance to the round of 16 ... Miami also received at-large nods in 1995, 1986 and 1985 ... Western Michigan earned the other at-large berth, in 1998, and responded with a first-round win over Clemson ... the 1995 Miami squad posted a first-round victories over Arizona, while both the 1985 and 1986 MU teams lost overtime games in the opening round.

McLeod's league-leading 22.9 ppg is the highest in the MAC since Miami's Wally Szczerbiak averaged 23.4 ppg in 1999 ... McLeod's total of 65 points in the wins over Akron and Ball State is a MAC record for two tourney games ... the previous mark was 61 by Dan Majerle (Central Michigan, 1987) and Grant Long (Eastern Michigan, 1988).
