Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University football player Josh Harris is one of 10 student-athletes from the Mid-American Conference, representing seven different conference sports, who has been chosen to participate in the sixth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference, May 26-31, at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Harris is the league's lone football player chosen.
The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is to develop a diverse group of student-athletes who will actively participate in and experience a multitude of challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become change agents on their campuses and in their communities. It will provide NCAA student-athletes with the opportunity to discuss and explore critical issues facing their peers, to enhance their leadership skills, and to promote better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
All NCAA member institutions which participate in the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program are eligible to submit student-athlete nominations. The MAC list includes five track & field athletes, one cross-country runner, a football player, a baseball player, volleyball player, a swimmer and a golfer.
The NCAA received 1,183 nomination forms from 296 institutions. From that group, a total of 300 student-athletes were selected to participate. The student-athletes were nominated by the school's NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills coordinator and a committee comprised of nine diverse members at the national level reviewed and ranked each nomination.
Harris played in 10 games last season, completing 81-of-133 passes for 1,002 yards and nine touchdowns while running the ball 126 times for a team leading 614 yards. He was named the ESPN National Player of the Week after his performance at Northwestern when he completed 30 of 47 passes for 402 yards and three TDs at Northwestern (also had one receiving TD and two rushing TD's), compiling 498 yards of total offense.
He is a graduate of Westerville (North) High School and a member of the MAC Football Honor Roll carrying a 3.09 GPA in interpersonal communication.
