BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University student-athlete Holly Frantz (Grand Rapids, Ohio/Otsego) has been named a recipient of an NCAA Women's Enhancement Program Postgraduate Scholarship. Frantz is one of just 13 female student-athletes at all NCAA member institutions throughout the nation to receive this award.
Frantz, a senior on the BGSU softball team, is just the second BGSU student-athlete to receive this scholarship since the program's inception in 1989. Falcon gymnast Kim Eddings was a recipient in 1993.
The NCAA awards 13 scholarships to women college graduates at all NCAA member institutions that will be entering into the first year of initial postgraduate studies. All applicants must be seeking to enter or have been accepted into a sports-related program that will assist the applicant in obtaining a career in intercollegiate athletics.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have performed with distinction as student-body members at their respective undergraduate institutions. The applicants' involvement in extracurricular activities, course work, commitment to pursuing a career in intercollegiate athletics and promise for success in such a career are factors considered by the committee.
The NCAA Women's Postgraduate Scholarship Program was developed by the NCAA's Committee on Women's Athletics and the Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee to increase the pool of and opportunities for women candidates in intercollegiate athletics through postgraduate scholarships and internships at the NCAA national office.
Frantz currently maintains a 3.87 cumulative grade point average as a sport management major. She is on track to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, and plans to attend the BGSU Graduate College within the School of Human Movement Science & Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Sport Administration.
Additionally, Frantz will serve a graduate assistantship in the BGSU department of athletics, working under strength and conditioning coach Aaron Hillmann.
On the field, Frantz is in her second year as the starting catcher for the Falcons of head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw. The lone Falcon to start all 44 games this spring, Frantz is hitting .272 at the plate, and is on pace to set a school career record for fielding percentage.
The Falcons (19-24-1 overall, 10-12 Mid-American Conference) step outside of conference play to take on Detroit Thursday afternoon (May 2). Then, the Brown and Orange, looking to qualify for the MAC Tournament for the fifth consecutive year, will play a Sunday (May 5) doubleheader at Ohio University to close the regular season.
