Three Falcons Named to ABCA Mideast Region First Team

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University had three baseball players named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Mideast Region first team over the weekend, including first baseman Kelly Hunt, second baseman Corey Loomis and shortstop Nick Elrod.
Hunt, the 2002 MAC player of the year, tied a MAC record with 84 RBIs, while also tying for the Mid-American Conference lead in home runs (22) and batting .402. Loomis led the Falcons with a .404 batting average while driving in 52 runs with 13 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs. He was drafted last week by the Detroit Tigers in the 21st round of the amateur draft. Elrod finished third on the team in batting average (.379) with 16 doubles, eight home runs and 40 RBIs. Elrod and Loomis helped the Falcons turn a school-record 65 double plays this season.
The Mid-American Conference again dominated the ABCA Mideast Region baseball first and second teams. Eight MAC players were named to the first team (out of 14 selections), while six others garnered second team accolades.
Also named to the first team were Ball State's Bryan Bullington (RHP), Kent State's Pat O'Brien (CA), Miami designated hitter Michael Carlin and outfielders Mike Arbinger (Ohio) and Ryan Goleski (Eastern Michigan).
Second team members include Ball State's Paul Henry (SS) and Luke Hagerty (P), Ohio's Adam Fox (3B), Toledo's Mitch Maier (CA), Western Michigan's Sam Flamont (OF) and Central Michigan's Chad Pleiness (P).
Saneholtz Named to Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team
Freshman right-hander Tyler Saneholtz was named honorable mention last week to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team, announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Saneholtz posted a 6-2 record in his rookie campaign with a 5.37 ERA in 68.2 innings pitched. He made 10 starts and finished with 44 strikeouts and 36 walks.
