Track And Field Opens 2003 Season

Bowling Green, Ohio - The BGSU Women's Indoor Track team and fourth year head coach Scott Sehmann will open the season when they host a quintangular meet this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Perry Field House. Last year, the BGSU indoor squad finished eighth at the MAC Championships.
THROWS Junior Kerri McClung, (Portland, IN) who finished second at the MAC Championship in the shot put, was a national qualifier from last year and will once again be asked to lead the Falcons in this event. Senior, Mary Willems (Huntington, IN) will join McClung in the shot put and weight throw. Willems finished 12th at last years MAC Championships.
SPRINTS AND HURDLES Junior Alicia Taylor (Cleveland Hts., OH) and senior Amy Henry (Newport News, VA) will be the Falcons top runners in the sprint and hurdle events. Taylor finished fourth at the MAC Championships last year in the 60-meter low hurdles. Henry, a transfer from Hampton University, will be counted on in the 60-meter dash as well as hurdles.
MIDDLE DISTANCE Leading the mid-distance runners will be sophomore Tamika Dixon, sophomore Marquita McGowen, junior Ellen Alkire and senior Briana Killian. Dixon (Cleveland Hts., OH) finished 11th last year at the MAC championships in the 400-meters. McGowan (Detroit, MI) had her best finish of the season, finishing fifth at the BGSU Invite last season, also in the 400-meters. Alkire(Ft. Wayne, IN) placed 13th at the MAC Championships in the 800-meters last season. Killian (Englewood, OH) was the top Falcon finisher at the MAC Championships last season, placing seventh overall in the 800-meters.
DISTANCE Junior Amber Culp and sophomore Melissa Krueger will lead the Falcons in the distance running. Culp (Ann Arbor, MI) will be the Falcons top steeplechase runner. Krueger (Versailles, OH) placed 18th in the mile run last year at the MAC Championships.
JUMPS Senior Nicole Carter (Nicholasville, KY) and freshman Erin Leeper (West Chester, OH) will lead the Falcons in the long jump and high jump. Carter placed 14th at the MAC Championships in the triple jump last season. Leeper joins the Falcon program as a freshman and should contribute immediately.
