BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
BGSU HEAD COACH CURT MILLER:
"When you have been outrebounded by 36 in your last two games, there is some intensity in practice, with a lot of focus on rebounding. Rebounding is a lot about desire, and not necessarily how big we are, or how physical we are. We talked about letting an opportunity slip by at Toledo, when we hold a very talented team to 35 percent shooting, and just can't get it done because of one statistical category."
"I'm very pleased with our defensive performance. They only shot 32% for the game, and they are a very talented three-point shooting team, and only went 3-for-16 from behind the arc today."
(On the Falcons' defensive pressure:)
"They have a freshman point guard, and it is not easy to be a freshman point guard in this conference. We wanted to pressure her and take her out of her game, and I think we did a good job of that. We didn't always get her to turn it over, but we really wanted to have good ball pressure. Lindsay (Austin) really defends people well from end-line to end-line."
"We've had some really good runs, but we sustained this run today. We talked about getting off to a fast (second-half) start. We worked hard for that lead, and we didn't want to let it slip away. I'll probably jinx myself, but we have yet to trail at halftime in a home MAC game since my arrival. We pride ourselves on preparation, and now we're taking advantage of the halftime leads and winning more games. It just puts you in such a frame of mind that you can go out and win, because now it's a 20-minute game instead of a 40-minute game."
"We found ways to be more aggressive off the dribble today, and get to the foul line. That is crucial for our success, because there will be nights where we don't shoot the ball from the arc. For the second game in a row, we found ways to get to the line in the second half."
"We have a very tough schedule in our next nine games, and we will probably be the underdog in about eight of them. Our next two games are against the teams that are the class of the league right now -- at Ball State and at Western (Michigan). We have a very tough January schedule, and we needed to win our home games, and hold serve. (You need to )win your home games and maybe put yourself in position to steal a game or two on the road."
"I loved the crowd today. It's fun to look down at the stat sheet and see twelve hundred-plus people. Brian Corvino and the marketing office did a great job with their promotion, giving away T-shirts to get the student body in the stands early for our game. I'm a big proponent of doubleheaders, and Brian and his staff did a good job of getting people to come out for both games of the doubleheader today. It was huge for us to see the amount of support today, especially from the students. I hope that we won some fans over, and that they'll continue to support us and come to our games. This is a tough place to play, and it just gives us an added home-court advantage."
CMU HEAD COACH EILEEN KLEINFELTER:
"We have a very, very young team, and I guess it was just a matter of time before we got ourselves totally intimidated out of our game. I think that's what happened today. We went to Eastern (Michigan) and had a nice game, and we played a really good game vs. Ball State, and then we don't show up today against Bowling Green. It's unfortunate, because we felt it was a team we could compete with, and we just didn't take care of business."
"Take nothing away from Bowling Green. They played an outstanding game, and I think the major factor was their defense. Their defense just totally took us out of our offense. We did a good job on the boards, but 24 turnovers just isn't gonna win you the basketball game. I attribute a lot to Bowling Green's intense man-to-man defense."
"We just didn't run our offense. I feel like we were so intimidated that we forgot the playbook. Bowling Green's defense today is probably the toughest defense we've faced so far in the MAC. We didn't have the trouble against Ball State that we had here against Bowling Green's defense."
BGSU SENIOR FRANCINE MILLER:
"We've had a lot of good motivation this week from our coaches, and a lot of rough film sessions (after the Toledo game). We were fired up to come out today, and we were ready to play. We didn't want to have a game like Toledo."
"I thought our defense was awesome tonight. I mean, we haven't played that well together in a while, and to hold them to two field goals for I don't know how many minutes ... I think that's pretty impressive. It was a real team effort today. We all contributed in our own little way, and I thought we did well."
"We've got a big game on Wednesday at Ball State, and we're hoping that our play today can carry over into that game. That's a huge game for us."
BGSU JUNIOR LINDSAY AUSTIN:
"I have to give credit to (BGSU Assistant) Coach Kevin (Eckert), because he told me to play 'One-30-40' today, which means to take it one possession at a time, 30 seconds each possession and 40 minutes a game. I just had to keep buckling down and playing hard each possession. But, I owe a lot to him for putting some fire into me."
