FALCONS FACE ONE OF THE MAC'S HOTTEST TEAMS
The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team is in second place the MAC West Division with a 5-2 record, and will face a Northern Illinois team which has won four straight games, including three on the road at Toledo, Ohio and Ball State. The Huskies will be the third of four straight opponents to have a week off before playing BGSU.
THE SERIES
NIU leads the series 21-20, but BGSU has won the last six contests including a 64-63 victory at NIU on January 4. In that game, sophomore Cory Eyink made a layup with 6.4 seconds remaining to hand the Huskies their last defeat. With BGSU joining the MAC West Division this year, this will be the first time since the 1985-86 campaign that these two teams will play a home and home series. The Falcons will be looking for their first series sweep since the 1975-76 season, while the Huskies will try for their first win at Anderson Arena since the 1996-97 season.
HOME COURT HAS HELPED IN THE MAC
In three home MAC games this season, BGSU is allowing 58.6 points on 37.7 % shooting from the floor and 18% from long distance. In three MAC home games this season, sophomore John Reimold (9/18) and senior Cory Ryan (7/15) have combined to hit 48.5% of their three-point field goal attempts.
ONE EXTREME TO ANOTHER
In the Falcons' 74-60 win over Akron, BGSU committed a season-low 12 turnovers. At Western Michigan, the Broncos forced the Falcons into a season-high 23 miscues.
DEFENSE FUELS FALCONS
The Falcons are second in the MAC in steals (8.3) and rank third in the conference in scoring defense (66.6), third in field goal percentage defense (42.6), and first in three-point field goal percentage defense (28.8). Since the 2000-2001 season, BGSU is 17-0 when it holds opponents to 60 points or less and 34-3 over the course of Dakich's six-year tenure.
GOOD SHOOTING MAKES A DIFFERENCE
The Falcons shot 51.1% from the field against the Zips and improved to 4-0 when they have shot better than 50 percent from the floor. Ironically, all four of those games have come against MAC opponents (Buffalo, Northern Illinois, Kent State and Akron). In the second half at Western Michigan, BGSU shot 77.2 % from the field (13/18) and 87.5% from three point range (7/8).
MOSS, MAGNER MAKE MOST OF PLAYING TIME AT WMU
Freshman Raheem Moss had a season-high 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes of action at Western Michigan. He also made both of his three-point field goal attempts. Freshman Cole Magner also played a season-high 20 minutes and had eight points and three steals. Prior to the WMU game, the pair had scored 24 points between them this season.
