Falcons Finish Play At Spartan Cup

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team completed play at The Spartan Cup Sunday afternoon (Oct. 12), with one Falcon capturing a consolation crown. Sophomore Heidi Romer won the consolation bracket of the 'B' Singles flight at the five-team, three-day invitational, hosted by Michigan State University. No team scores were kept.
Romer and classmate Andrea Meister also advanced to the consolation final in the doubles bracket, before losting to the Owen/Roach duo from Ball State. Meister and Romer had downed Toledo's Jen Meister (Andrea's sister) and Daniella Moran to advance to the final.
Another Falcon doubles team, comprised of senior Gaby Coello and freshman Ashley Jakupcin, lost in the semfinal round of the championship bracket, falling by a 9-7 score to the eventual champions, UT's Cueva/Paravicini team.
In the 'B' Flight of singles, junior Laura Kokinda downed UT's Moran.
The Falcons are idle from competition until Tuesday, Oct. 21. On that date, Penny Dean's squad will return to action with a home dual vs. Wayne State, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
