Cleveland, Ohio - Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo today announced the team has signed former Bowling Green State University standout Fred Degand to a two-year contract. Per Club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Fred is an extremely athletic player who can seemingly run effortlessly. Fans watching Fred play will see a running style similar to that of teammate John Ball," stated Garofolo.
DeGand, a 24-year old defender, will make his Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) and Force debut this season. Degand, who was originally selected by the Cleveland franchise with its territorial pick in the 2000 National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) Amateur Draft, has played for the Charleston Battery, Cincinnati Riverhawks, Hampton Road Mariners and Hershey Wildcats of the A-League. In his three-year career in the A-League, Fred has recorded two goals and added one assist. While at Bowling Green, DeGand was a four-year letter winner and starter. Fred earned All-Mid-American Conference, All-Ohio and All-Midwest honors during his collegiate career.
The Force will look to improve their record this weekend with a home and home series with the Milwaukee Wave. Cleveland will first travel to Milwaukee to face the Wave on Friday, October 31 at the U.S. Cellular Arena with kickoff slated for 8:00 p.m. The Force will then host Milwaukee on Saturday, November 1 as the team plays their Home Opener at 7:05 p.m. The game on Friday can be heard of WKNR 850 AM and then Saturday's game will be broadcast live on WHK 1220 AM and WHKW 1440 AM in Warren.
