BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - For the second consecutive weekend, the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team will head to the state of Michigan for an invitational hosted by a Big Ten Conference school. The Falcons of head coach Penny Dean will participate in The Spartan Cup, hosted by Michigan State University, from Friday through Sunday (Oct. 10-12) at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Matches are set to begin at 9 a.m. each day.
Mid-American Conference schools Ball State and Toledo, plus Cincinnati, will join the Falcons and the host Spartans in the tournament, which will consist of A and B singles flights as well as a doubles flight. There will also be consolation brackets for all flights.
The Falcons are coming off last weekend's Wolverine Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan. At that tourney, both freshman Ashley Jakupcin and sophomore Andrea Meister won the back draw of their respective singles flights, while the doubles team of senior Lisa Maloney and sophomore Heidi Romer advanced to the finals of the back draw in that 22-team bracket.
Following the Spartan Cup, the Falcons will host a pair of dual matches to close the fall portion of the 2003-04 schedule. BGSU will host Wayne State on Oct. 24 and Western Ontario three days later, in the team's final action until late January.
