YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Quotes from Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller following the Falcons' 79-67 loss at Youngstown State University Saturday night (Nov. 22)...
"Overall, I'm disappointed with the loss. We felt we had our chances to pull off an important road win to start the season. The bottom line is that we just didn't get enough stops in crucial times. We pride ourselves on being a team that can hold our opponents to a shooting percentage of around 40 percent. Tonight, though, Youngstown State stepped up and had a great offensive night."
"We could not step up and shut down Jessica Olmstead, coming off the pick-and-roll from the wing. She hurt us throughout the game."
"In the scheme of things, I really liked our positioning with about 12 minutes to go, holding a four-point lead. But, the 13-0 Youngstown run was the difference in the game. It was one three-minute stretch in which we were badly outplayed, and gave up a big run that, in essence, secured the win for Youngstown."
"On the bright side, I was ecstatic with the play of our freshmen and newcomers. Obviously, we had a great individual performance from Megan Thorburn, who has impressed from day one. She had a very solid 22-point game. And, we had an overall freshman output of 43 points. I was greatly encouraged by the play of our newcomers."
"I was very pleased with our ability to outrebound our first opponent of the season, and get 21 offensive rebounds."
"We are going to go back into the film room and onto the practice court, and continue to get better. I am not going to pressure this team to win early. We are going to be patient with this team, and will strive to be playing our best basketball come conference time. When you break down tonight's game, of the nine players that played the most minutes for us, seven were true freshmen or newcomers. I'm just not going to put pressure on them early to gain wins. Our overall goal is to get better every night, and the wins will take care of themselves."
