The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, coming off a convincing win in the home opener, heads to Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Islander Classic this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 28-29) ... the Falcons of third-year head coach Curt Miller will play a Friday game vs. Southeast Missouri State University in the first round, beginning at 5:00 p.m. locally (6:00 p.m. Eastern) ... then, the Brown and Orange will face either Prairie View A&M or host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Saturday action ... all four games in the tournament will be played at Memorial Coliseum (4,000).

Following the Islander Classic, the Falcons will head to central Pennsylvania for a game vs. Bucknell on Wednesday, Dec. 3 ... the next BGSU home game is Saturday, Dec. 6, vs. IPFW in a 3:30 p.m. start at Anderson Arena.
FALCONS ON LOCAL RADIO FOR AT LEAST 25 GAMES
A total of 24 of the Falcons' 27 regular-season games, plus any postseason action, will be on the air in 2003-04 ... following this week's three games, every remaining contest is scheduled to be broadcast ... student station WBGU-FM (88.1) is scheduled to broadcast all but three regular-season contests -- the home opener vs. Detroit (Nov. 25) and this weekend's two games at the Flint Hills Resources Islander Classic (Nov. 28-29) ... the 2003-04 academic year marks the second season of an agreement between the BGSU department of athletics and the Bowling Green Radio Sports Organization (BGRSO) to have WBGU serve as the flagship station for both hockey and women's basketball ... games produced by BGRSO are heard on the Internet at bgrso.org and via the Real One Package available through bgsufalcons.com.

While the Falcon radio network will not broadcast either game in Texas, fans can still hear Friday's game vs. Southeast Missouri State via the SEMO athletics web site ... to access the game, listeners can log onto www.GoSoutheast.com and click either the 'listen' link on the women's basketball schedule page or the 'audio/video' link on the front page of the web site.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
BGSU heads to Texas with a record of 1-1 on the young season ... the Falcons opened the campaign with a 79-67 loss at Youngstown State Saturday (Nov. 22), but bounced back for a 77-53 win over Detroit in Tuesday's (Nov. 25) home opener ... BG ended the 2002-03 season with a record of 12-16, and the Falcons finished the MAC campaign with a 5-11 league record ... the Falcons tied with Central Michigan for sixth in the MAC's West Division ... in 2003-04, the Falcons return six letterwinners from that team, including a pair of starters in seniors Lindsay Austin and Stefanie Wenzel ... in addition, the Falcons also welcome back two juniors, Tene Lewis and Sakima Smith, along with a pair of sophomores in Jill Lause and Marisa Smith.
The nine newcomers, as mentioned, include redshirt junior Kelly Kapferer and redshirt sophomore Casey McDowell ... Kapferer earned two letters at BGSU before sitting out last season, while McDowell sat out last year at BG after transferring from Indiana State ... the freshman class consists of Amber Flynn (Cincinnati, Ohio) Julie Gompers (Wheeling, W.Va.), Liz Honegger (Lafayette, Ind.), Carin Horne (Lima, Ohio), Ali Mann (Chelsea, Mich.), Kim Nowakowski (Butler, Pa.) and Megan Thorburn (Mason, Mich.) ... Nowakowski is sidelined indefinitely due to injury, but each of the other six frosh saw action in both the Falcons' exhibition (vs. the Premier All-Stars, Nov. 3), and five have played in both regular-season games to date.
On the sidelines, Curt Miller is joined by third-year assistants Jennifer Roos and Brandi Poole ... Kevin Eckert begins his second season on the staff.
Thorburn leads a balanced Falcon scoring attack with 15.0 points per game, while Austin has 10.5 points, 8.0 rebounds ana a team-high 6.5 assists per contest ... Wenzel averages 10.0 points, while both Honegger and Mann are scoring 9.0 points per outing ... Mann leads the Falcons with 8.5 rebounds per game.
Austin, Mann, Thorburn and Wenzel each have started the first two games of the season ... Kapferer started at center in the opener, while Honegger drew the start for the Detroit game.
The Falcons went 6-6 at home last season, and BG was 5-9 on the road and 1-1 in neutral-site games ... in MAC contests, BGSU finished 4-4 at home and 1-7 away from Anderson Arena.
SCOUTING SOUTHEAST
Southeast Missouri State enters Friday's game with a 1-2 record, but both losses have come to nationally-ranked teams ... the Otahkians opened the season with a loss at Utah, 76-65, in the Preseason NIT ... Southeast bounced back with a Saturday (Nov. 22) win over Southern Illinois, 73-64, but the team then lost at Oklahoma by an 83-48 count two days later (Nov. 24) ... junior center Chandra Brown leads the Otahkians in both scoring and rebounding, with 13.7 points and 7.0 boards per game ... freshman guard Jessica Aebi and senior guard Kenja White average 10.7 and 8.7 points, respectively ... junior guard Sami Jo Cotton and senior forward Carina Souza joined the aforementioned three players in the starting lineup at Oklahoma ... a total of nine players on the 12-woman roster came to Southeast via the junior-college route, including five players (three of the starters) from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M ... head coach B.J. Smith welcomes back seven letterwinners, including four starters, from last year's team that finished 19-11 overall and 11-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference, and advanced all the way to the championship game of the league tourney ... White and Souza both were named to the preseason all-league team this year ... Prairie View A&M is 2-0 after beginning the season with home wins over Paul Quinn (84-63, Nov. 22) and Huston-Tillotson (77-54, Nov. 24) ... freshman guard Angel Smith leads a balanced scoring attack with 13.5 points per game, while junior F/C Carolyn Hopkins has 12.5 points and a team-high 13.5 rebounds per outing for the Lady Panthers ... senior guard LaToya Moten also has 12.5 points, while freshman forward Natasha Adams has 11.5 points and 10.0 boards ... sophomore guard Karlanda Butler joins those four players in the starting lineup, and has 7.5 assists per game ... head coach Bob Atkins welcomes back seven letterwinners, including four starters, from last year's team that went 6-21 overall and 4-14 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) ... SCOUTING TAMU-CORPUS CHRISTI
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 2-1 on the season after a last-second win at Portland, 64-63, on Monday (Nov. 24) ... in that game, freshman guard Kirbria Lewis hit a jumper with three seconds remaining, then blocked a three-point field-goal attempt at the buzzer ... that game came the day after a 68-53 loss at Oregon State ... the Islanders had opened the season with a home win over Texas-San Antonio (57-48, Nov. 21) ... individually, sophomore forward Lindsey Van Dorn leads the team with 11.7 points per game, while Lewis averages 9.3 points and a team-high 5.7 assists ... both junior center Jackie Ododa and sophomore forward Terra Andrews have 8.3 points per contest ... Ododa leads the Islanders with 10.7 rebounds per game ... freshman guard Nicole Duncan (6.0 ppg) rounds out the starting lineup for head coach Jodi Kest ... a year ago, TAMU-Corpus Christi went 15-12 ... Kest welcomed back seven letterwinners, including two starters, from that squad ... LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons led from wire to wire and posted a 77-53 win over Detroit Tuesday night (Nov. 25) ... the balanced Falcon scoring attack saw five players hit double digits for head coach Curt Miller, led by senior Stefanie Wenzel's 14-point night ... a pair of BG teammates, senior Lindsay Austin and freshman Ali Mann, recorded double doubles ... Mann had 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Austin had 10 points and 10 boards ... three freshmen were among the five double-digit Falcon scorers, as newcomers Liz Honegger and Carin Horne had 10 points apiece ... Detroit had three players - Lindsey Pasquinzo, Nicole Anaejionu and Joanna Cooper - score 10 points apiece ... the Falcons had a quick start, scoring the first nine points of the game ... Cooper's field goal at the 15:16 mark put the Titans on the board, but Mann scored the next five points to give the Falcons a 14-2 edge ... after another Cooper hoop, the Brown and Orange scored five consecutive points to go up by a 19-4 margin, and the visitors got no closer than 13 points the rest of the evening ... the Falcons shot over 60 percent in the first half, leading by as many as 23 points (41-18), before the Titans scored the final six points of the half ... the Brown and Orange made 14-of-23 shots in the first 20 minutes (.609), while holding the visitors to just a .281 success rate (9-of-32) in that half ... BGSU turned the ball over on the first two possessions of the second half, and a Pasquinzo three-pointer (the Titans' first of the game) cut the margin to 14 points ... but, UDM would get no closer ... the Falcons went on a 16-3 run to take a 57-30 lead with 12:22 remaining ... BGSU pulled down 46 rebounds to UDM's 33 ... for the game, BGSU shot .522 from the field, while holding the Titans to a .309 success rate.
THE FRESHMAN IMPACT
The Falcon freshmen combined to score a total of 44 points vs. Detroit, after totalling 43 at Youngstown State ... BG frosh have combined for 60.4 percent of the team's points to date ... freshmen scored the first eight points of the YSU game, and 17 of the team's first 19 points in the contest ... in all, the five freshmen that played at Youngstown combined to score 24 of BG's 36 first-half points, en route to the 43 total points.
THREE FROSH IN THE STARTING LINEUP
Freshman Liz Honegger drew the first start of her brief Falcon career in the Detroit game ... Honegger joined fellow frosh Ali Mann and Megan Thorburn, who both were in the starting lineup for their respective collegiate debuts, at Youngstown State.
DOUBLE DOUBLE-DOUBLES
A pair of Falcons posted double-doubles in the win over Detroit ... senior Lindsay Austin had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Ali Mann scored 13 points and pulled down a game-high 11 boards ... the double-double was the second of Austin's career, but her first in the points-rebounds categories ... she had 17 points and 10 assists in a win over Ohio last season ... for Mann, of course, the double-double was the first in her two-game BGSU career ... the Falcons had a total of four double-doubles during all of last season ... the last time two Falcons had double-doubles in the same game came on Feb. 23, 2002, when Dana Western and Stefanie Wenzel each turned the trick vs. Eastern Michigan.
WELL-ROUNDED GAME FOR AUSTIN
Senior Lindsay Austin had a well-rounded game vs. Detroit ... as mentioned, she had a double-double, with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds ... Austin also had game-high totals of six assists and three steals in the win ... through two games, she has averages of 10.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists.
BOARDWORK
The Falcons, who had more rebounds than their opponents on only four occasions during all of last season, now have held a rebounding advantage in each of this season's two games ... Tuesday, BGSU pulled down 46 caroms to Detroit's 33 ... the Falcons held a 37-32 advantage in rebounding at Youngstown State ... BGSU had a total of 21 offensive rebounds vs. the Penguins, the team's most in nearly two years (since BG pulled down 27 offensive boards vs. Wright State on Dec. 15, 2001).
FIVE IN DOUBLE DIGITS
A total of five BGSU players hit double digits in scoring in the win over Detroit ... senior Stefanie Wenzel led the Falcons' balanced attack with 14 points, while freshman Ali Mann had 13 ... senior Lindsay Austin and frosh Liz Honegger and Carin Horne had 10 points apiece ... the Brown and Orange had five players in double digits in just one game last season, a 90-85 home loss to Ball State (Feb. 19, 2003).
HOT SHOOTING
The Falcons shot .609 from the field in the first half of the win over Detroit Tuesday, making 14 of 23 attempts from the floor ... the effort marked the team's best field-goal percentage in a half since Feb. 23, 2002, against Eastern Michigan ... in that game, BGSU shot .630 (17-of-27) from the field in the first half, en route to a 78-62 win over the Eagles ... ironically, that EMU game was also the last time two Falcons had double-doubles, prior to the UDM contest.
HOT SHOOTING II
BGSU shot .552 for the game in the win over Detroit ... the Falcons shot over .500 only once last season, a .571 percentage in a 50-point win over Savannah State (Dec. 22, 2002).
