HOME SWEET HOME
The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team, 10-14 overall and 6-9 in the MAC, return home to play three straight games (Miami, Eastern Michigan and Toledo) after playing just twice in Anderson Arena in the month of February. Miami, 13-11 and 11-4, would be the top seed in the MAC Tournament if the season ended today.
THE SERIES
The Redhawks hold a 66-43 lead in a series which began in 1944. The Falcons have won the last four meetings, the last seven regular-season contests and have posted victories in the last six games at Anderson Arena. Despite BGSU's success, six of the last eight games between the two teams have been decided by six points or less, including three overtime tilts.
LEWIS IS IN GOOD COMPANY
With his career-high 29 point effort at Ball State, freshman Ron Lewis upped his season scoring average to 10.5 points per game. The last three Falcons to average more than double figures as freshmen later went on to earn MAC Player of the Year honors. Antonio Daniels averaged 12.6 points in 1994, Anthony Stacey averaged 16 points in 1996 and Keith McLeod averaged 12.4 in 1999. His 255 points scored is the most registered by a freshman under Dan Dakich (McLeod scored 247 points as a frosh) and Lewis (4.9 rebounds) is looking to be the first freshman to lead the team in rebounding since Stacey led the Falcons in 1996. Lewis is averaging 16.2 points in the last five games and is shooting 66.7 % from the floor (12/18) and 82.9% (29/35) from the free throw line in the last three games.
MATTOX IS THIRD STARTER TO SUFFER SEASON-ENDING INJURY
BGSU lost all five starters from last year and currently has a healthy roster of six scholarship players, two football players and one other walk-on. With sophomore Germain Fitch (knee) and junior Josh Almanson (ankle) out for the season after surgery, the Falcons replaced them with two players from the football team, wide receiver Cole Magner and defensive back Keon Newson. Last week, junior point guard Jabari Mattox suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and underwent surgery, February 24.
REIMOLD MOVES UP SINGLE-SEASON THREE-POINT LADDER
Sophomore John Reimold needs one three-point field goal to surpass Jay Larranaga and Shane Komives (72 apiece) for second place on the BGSU single-season three-point field goal list. Keith McLeod set the school's single season mark with 89 last season.
