CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University freshman Lindsay Heimrich has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the conference office has announced. She earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Heimrich, a native of Waterville, Ohio (Anthony Wayne HS), hit a team-high .579 as the Falcons completed spring-trip action in the states of Kentucky and Virginia last week. Heimrich, who entered the week having played in just two games, played in seven games on the week, making six starts, and had 11 hits in 19 at-bats.
Heimrich made one start at first base, and started the last five games at the designated-player spot. She notched her first collegiate hit at Morehead Sate Tuesday (March 11), going 3-for-3 in that contest and scoring three of BGSU's five runs in the game.
On the week, Heimrich also had multi-hit games vs. Seton Hall, Stony Brook and Virginia, with a pair of RBI in the Stony Brook contest. She had a slugging percentage of .632 and an on-base percentage of .619, and is currently riding a six-game hitting streak.
Heimrich also made her collegiate pitching debut last week, seeing action in the circle in two games.
Heimrich was named the league player of the week for the West Division. Ball State's Cortney Winger was the division's pitcher of the week, while Ohio's Erin Chapman and Miami's Cortney Salmon earned player- and pitcher-of-the-week honors, respectively, for the East Division.
Heimrich's honor is the second for the Falcons this season to date. Junior Jody Johnson was the MAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 24.
The Falcons, 8-9-1 on the young season, are scheduled to open the Mid-American Conference portion of the 2003 schedule with a doubleheader at Western Michigan Saturday (March 22). Leigh Ross-Shaw's team is scheduled to open the home schedule next Tuesday, March 25, against Michigan.
