HOME SWEET HOME
The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team, 11-14 overall and 7-9 in the MAC, is home for the second of three straight games in Anderson Arena (Miami, Eastern Michigan and Toledo) after playing just twice in Anderson Arena in the month of February. With its 14-12 record (8-9 in the MAC), Coach Jim Boone's Eagles have surpassed their combined win total from the previous two seasons (9).
THE SERIES
The Falcons hold a 38-34 lead in a series which began in the 1915-16 season. The Eagles captured the previous meeting this season with a 73-67 triumph on January 14 in Ypsilanti. The Falcons have won the last seven meetings in Anderson Arena, including an 82-61 victory last season.
LEWIS IS IN GOOD COMPANY
Freshman Ron Lewis is averaging 10.3 points per game and his 261 points scored is the most registered by a freshman under Dan Dakich (Keith McLeod scored 247 points as a frosh). The last three Falcons to average more than double figures as freshmen later went on to earn MAC Player of the Year honors. Antonio Daniels averaged 12.6 points in 1994, Anthony Stacey averaged 16 points in 1996 and Keith McLeod averaged 12.4 in 1999. Lewis (4.8 rebounds) is looking to be the first freshman to lead the team in rebounding since Stacey led the Falcons in 1996. Lewis had a career-high 29 points against Ball State and made 16 of 17 free throws in that game.
DAKICH EARNS 100TH VICTORY AT BGSU
With the Falcons' 51-48 victory over Miami, BGSU coach Dan Dakich became the fifth coach in Falcon history to win at least 100 games in his career. His 58.5 winning percentage is the second best in BGSU history behind Harold Anderson who won 65.5 % of his games. Dakich is the second fastest in BGSU history to reach the century mark in victories (171 games). Anderson was the fastest BGSU coach to win 100 games in his career (135 games), John Weinert accomplished the feat in 188 games, Paul Landis in 197 games and Jim Larranaga in 199 games.
FROM ONE EXTREME TO ANOTHER
Last week, the Falcons allowed a season-high 94 points at Ball State, before holding Miami to an opponent low 48 points on Saturday. In five of their seven MAC wins this season, BGSU has held the opposing team to 60 points or less. Since the 2000-2001 season, BGSU is 19-1 when it holds opponents to 60 points or less and 35-4 over the course of Dakich's six-year tenure.
