Willems Sets MAC Record In Weight Throw

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Just one member of the Bowling Green State University women's track and field team competed in Friday (March 7) action at the Alex Wilson Invitational, but that Falcon certainly made her mark. Senior Mary Willems set new school and Mid-American Conference records in the weight throw, bettering the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the process.
Willems had a throw of 62' 8.75" (19.12m) at the event, which is being hosted by the University of Notre Dame. That effort bettered her own school record of 62' 1.25", which she set just last weekend at the MAC Indoor Championships at Kent State University. She topped the MAC record, which was also set at last weekend's meet. KSU's Donielle Swany had a mark of 19.10m at the conference meet.
Willems finished fifth at Friday's meet, and is currently ranked 23rd in the nation in the 20-pound weight throw.
Teammate Kerri McClung, a junior, will compete in the women's shot put event at the Alex Wilson Invite on Saturday (March 8). Competition begins at 10:30 a.m. with the shot set to start at 11:00 a.m.
