Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University women's golf team finished fourth out of 10 teams at the 2003 Bronco Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. at Moors Golf Club. The Falcons finished with a two-round score of 660 (330, 330), which took place Sunday and Monday. It was the best finish for the Falcons so far this spring.
Leading the charge for the Falcons was senior Shelley Binzel who took home runner-up honors with her score of 154. Binzel finished the first round on Sunday leading the tournament with a score of 74, but shot a 80 on Monday. Binzel's score of 154 tied her for second with WMU's Jenna Walter, but the senior co-captain won a one-hole playoff with a birdie for the second-place medal. It was the fourth runners-up finish in her four-year career, while she won the Lady Falcon Invitational in the fall of 2002.
Senior Emily Hassen shot a career-low score for 36 holes, finishing with a score of 163 and tied for 10th place. She was competing as an individual and her score did not count towards the Falcons' final team score. Hassen shot a first-round of 84 and finished with 79 in round two.
Also finishing in the top-15 was junior Jenny Schnipke who shot a 165 and tied for 15th place. Schnipke shot a first-round of 84 and had 81 in her second round. Other Falcon placers were senior Stephanie Elsea (T-24th, 168) junior Kari Evans (T-46th, 177), and junior Julie Wise (52nd, 186).
BGSU returns to action next weekend when the squad goes to Ohio State for the OSU Invitational in Columbus, Ohio (April 19-20).
