Emerson Named To Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2003 Academic All-MAC Gymnastics Team, and Bowling Green State University's Kathy Emerson has been named to the squad. The team is the result of voting by the faculty athletic representatives at the seven member institutions that sponsor women's gymnastics. Ten MAC student-athletes earned Academic All-MAC honors. The team returns in 2002-03 after a five-year hiatus.
Ball State's Cassie Anthony, Kim Cromer and Jenny Taylor were named to the team, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan each had a pair of student-athletes represented. Anna Gardina and Laura Hale made the team from NIU, while EMU's Natalie Hashimoto, the 2003 Senior Gymnast of the Year, and Leah Hashimoto garnered accolades.
In addition to Emerson, Jenny Eckel from Kent State and Sarah Dame from Central Michigan also made the squad.
Emerson, a senior from Findlay, Ohio, has a 3.37 cumulative grade point average as a physical therapy major.
The honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
