Falcons In Second Place After Day One of MAC Championships

The Bowling Green State University women's golf team is in second place after day one of the 2003 Mid-American Conference Championship, being held at Walden Ponds Golf Course in Hamilton, Ohio. BGSU has a team score of 307 and trails only Kent State (292).
All three Falcon seniors are in the top-20 after 18 holes. Leading the way is senior Emily Hassen who carded a career-low of 74, good enough for seventh place overall. She bettered her previous career-low by three strokes (77). Following her is Shelley Binzel with a score of 76 (T-10th place) and Stephanie Elsea with a round of 78 (T-18th place). Junior Jenny Schnipke is tied for 21st place (79) and freshman Amanda Schroeder is tied for 41st place (88).
The first-round score of 307 tied a season-low for the Falcons set way back on Sept. 7 in the first tournament of the season at Ball State. The school record for one round by a team is 305 set in 1984.
Toledo's Katie Schmidt leads the overall tournament after day one with a score of 70.
The second round of the 54-hole MAC Championship will be played on Saturday, April 26, with the final round scheduled for Sunday, April 27.
