Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics has reached an agreement with Clear Channel Lima for WBUK-FM (106.3 FM) to serve as the flagship station for all BGSU football and men's basketball games for the next three years. Under the agreement, Clear Channel Lima also will oversee the development and day-to-day operation of programming regarding Falcon football and men's basketball and will secure affiliates to carry BGSU games and related coaches shows for Falcon football coach Gregg Brandon and men's basketball coach Dan Dakich.
"We are very pleased to enter into this new partnership with Clear Channel Lima," said BGSU Director of Athletics Paul Krebs. "This has been a process that we have been trying to nurture over the past few years. This agreement helps address one of the biggest concerns that I hear from our alumni, fans, and sponsors and that is to expand the coverage area of our radio properties. We also plan to offer affiliates a longer presence on game-day and daily updates from Coach Brandon and Coach Dakich during drive time."
"We're excited about the partnership with BGSU sports in bringing the excitement of big time college football and basketball to the region, said Art Versnick, Clear Channel Lima Vice President and Market Manager. "We are anticipatingaround five stations to be apart of this network in the first year, including WCWA-AM in Toledo. Paul has had a vision sincecoming to BGSU of reaching out to a much bigger area for football and men's basketball. We're delighted that we will work together in producing a quality product for the University."
Todd Walker, associatesports director at Clear Channel Lima, will serve as the play-by-play voice on BGSU broadcasts next year, while the remainder of the on-air talent will be determined at a later date. Walker, a graduate of Ohio Northern, has been with Clear Channel Lima for more than a decade and has done high school football and basketball play-by-play and is a morning show co-host for WBUK, has served as a co-host of WIMA's weekly sports talk radio program and was the station's on-site host for its "Buckeye Tailgate Parties" prior to each Ohio State football game.
