CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University women's cross country and track and field athlete Katrina Kerns has been named the female recipient of the Mid-American Conference's Bob James Memorial Scholarship award. The award, which is the result of voting by the league's faculty representatives for athletics, was announced Monday (June 16). Central Michigan's Brett Faustman was the male recipient.
The Bob James Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete who has achieved a minimum grade-point average of 3.5, as well as shown evidence of good character, leadership and citizenship. Student-athletes are nominated during the academic year in which they complete their final season of eligibility. Winners receive a $1,000 post-graduate scholarship. The award is named in honor of Bob James, the MAC's second commissioner.
Since the inception of the Bob James Memorial Scholarship in 1989, BGSU has had eight student-athletes receive the award, the most of any MAC school.
