BGSU Finalizes 2003 Men's Soccer Schedule

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University has released its schedule for the upcoming 2003 men's soccer season. The Falcons enter the year as the defending Mid-American Conference Co-Champions.
The Falcons, led by 10th-year head coach Mel Mahler, return 14 letterwinners and nine starters from a year ago. This season marks the 39th year of men's soccer at BGSU.
Bowling Green begins its regular season with the home opener at Mickey Cochrane Field on Saturday, Aug. 30, against Cincinnati. The Bearcats were nationally-ranked last season and finished second in the Conference USA Tournament. BGSU then hosts Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday, Sept. 5.
BGSU takes to the road in September, appearing at the Stetson Classic in DeLand, Fla. (Sept. 12 and 14) and the UNLV Classic (Sept. 19 and 21). The Falcons will face Central Florida and Stetson in Florida, while they will take on San Diego State and the host Rebels in Las Vegas, Nev.
Other non-conference opponents for the 2003 season will include Michigan (Sept. 28), IPFW (Oct. 10), Cleveland State (Oct. 16), Birmingham Southern (Oct. 19), Oakland (Oct. 21), Michigan State (Oct. 31) and Detroit-Mercy (Nov. 2). The Wolverines are ranked 29th in this season's College Soccer News Preseason Poll.
MAC competition will be marked by visits from Kentucky (Oct. 5), Northern Illinois (Oct. 12), and Western Michigan (Oct. 26). The Falcons travel to Akron (Sept. 26), Buffalo (Oct. 3) and Marshall (Oct. 24).
