Doug Boersma Named Head Athletic Trainer

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Paul Krebs has named Doug Boersma as the head athletic trainer for the Falcons' 18-sport intercollegiate athletic program. Boersma comes to BGSU after serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Notre Dame since August 1999, and will oversee a staff of 20 which includes full-time certified athletic trainers, graduate assistants and student athletic trainers.
At Notre Dame, Boersma worked closely with the Irish football program and oversaw the day-to-day training needs of the men's ice hockey program as well as men's soccer and lacrosse during his four years at UND. He also gained experience as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Kentucky and as a student athletic trainer at Purdue.
At UK, Boersma worked directly with the football and women's gymnastics programs. In addition, he coordinated the in-service educational programs for student athletic trainers. At Purdue, the Highland, Ind., native worked with the men's basketball, football, baseball and women's tennis teams. Boersma also volunteered at the Purdue University Health Center's physical therapy department.
He earned his degree in athletic training from Purdue in 1997 and also earned his master's degree in health promotion from Kentucky in 1999.
The 29-year old Boersma and his wife, Cari, who were married in the summer of 2000 have one daughter, McKenna, born in December of 2002.
