Bowling Green, Ohio - Michigan's Mychal Turpin netted four goals against Bowling Green on a soggy Sunday afternoon at Mickey Cochrane Field to help the Wolverines to a 6-1 win over the Falcons. UM scored its last five goals in the final 23:34 of the game.
BGSU goalkeeper David DeGraff made several terrific saves in the first half, ending with six stops in the first 45 minutes. Mike White got UM on the board, though, at 19:23 with assists from Adam Bruh and Dawson Stellberger. The BGSU defense stiffened for the remainder of the first half and midway into the second half.
Michigan had 11 shots in the first half compared to BGSU's two, while attempting four corner kicks to the home team's one over the same time period.
Turpin got his first goal at 67:26 when he took a BGSU turnover deep in the Falcons' end, dribbled past a defender and scored past DeGraff to extend UM's lead to 2-0. His second goal came just over six minutes later (73:44).
Cory Stevens then put the home team on the scoreboard at 75:05 with a shot from 10 yards out past UM goalkeeper Jay Zawacki. Stevens' first goal of the season was assisted by Matt Martinka and Ben Monnette and brought the Falcons within two, 3-1.
However, Kevin Taylor scored on a penalty kick just over two minutes later and Turpin added two more goals in the final four minutes of the game for the five-goal win.
UM had a 19-7 advantage in shots and 7-3 nod in corner kicks. DeGraff ended with seven saves while Zawacki had two saves.
BGSU falls to 2-4-2 overall while Michigan improves to 6-3-0 overall. The Falcons travel to Buffalo this Friday (Oct. 3) for a 7 p.m. Mid-American Conference match while they host Kentucky on Sunday (Oct. 5) at Mickey Cochrane Field with a 2 p.m. start.
