Two Falcons Earn POW Honors from Mid-American Conference

Cleveland, Ohio - Bowling Green's Josh Harris leads this week's award winners from Week Two of Mid-American Conference football. Harris led the Falcons to a 27-26 win at No. 16 ranked Purdue. Coupled with Northern Illinois' 20-13 overtime win of No. 14 Maryland last week, for the first time in league history MAC teams have wins over ranked teams in back-to-back weeks.
MAC Football Players of the week for games of Sept. 4 and 6:
West Division
Offense - Josh Harris, Bowling Green, quarterback (Sr., Westerville, Ohio) - Harris led the Falcons to a 27-26 win at #16 Purdue and improved his record as a starter versus BCS league teams to 5-0. It marked BGSU's first win over a ranked team since a 1972, 17-14 win at then #18 Purdue. Harris completed 22-40 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 34 yards. He completed a game-winning 32-yard scoring pass to Charles Sharon with 2:08 to play on a fourth and 14 situation. Twice on the Falcons' final 81-yard game-winning drive Harris converted fourth down situations.
Defense - Keon Newson, Bowling Green, cornerback (Jr., Decatur, Ga.) - Newson had 12 tackles (10 solo, 2 assists) a tackle for a loss, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble in the 27-26 win at Purdue. The BGSU defense held the Boilermakers to just 95 rushing yards.
Special Teams - Lance Moore, Toledo, punt return specialist (Jr., Westerville, Ohio) - Set the tone early with a 54-yard punt return for a touchdown vs. Liberty just 1:13 into the contest.
East Division
Offense - Stan Hill, Marshall, quarterback (Jr., Tupelo, Miss.) - Hill completed 16-24 passes (66.7%) for 242 yards, 3 TDs and no interceptions before leaving the game late in the third quarter with a sprained knee at Tennessee. Hill also rushed twice for first downs and had 57 rushing yards, not counting the six times he was sacked.
Defense - Roberto Terrell, Marshall, defensive back (Jr., Dunnellon, Fla.) - Led Marshall with nine solo tackles and one assist (10 total), including a tackle for a loss at #12 Tennessee. Marshall's defense held the Vols to 40 yards of total offense in the first quarter in gaining a 7-0 lead.
Special Teams - Matthew Miller, Ohio, punter (So., Westerville, Ohio) - Booted 7 punts for an average of 46.1 yards at Iowa State. Had a career-best 63-yarder in the second quarter and added boots of 52, 48 and 51 yards in the game. Twice dropped the ball inside the 20.
Also nominated - West Division Offense - Jerry Seymour, Central Michigan, HB (166 yards and 3 TDs on 27 carries vs. New Hampshire); Josh Haldi, Northern Illinois, QB (17-27 passing for 252 yards and 3 TDs vs. Tennessee Tech); Bruce Gradowski, Toledo, QB (14-16 passing for 250 yards and 3 TDs vs. Liberty); Chad Munson, Western Michigan, QB (school record 450 passing yards and 6 TDs on completing 24-35 attempts vs. William and Mary).
Defense - Brandon Hefflin, Toledo, CB (an interception and 3 break ups vs. Liberty); Jason Feldpausch, Western Michigan, WS (7 tackles, forced a fumble and blocked a punt vs. William and Mary).
Special Teams - Nate Fry, Bowling Green, punter (6 punts for an average of 39.5 yards and a long of 53 yards); Dan Sheldon, Northern Illinois, punt returne (4 punt returns for 82 yards vs. Tennessee Tech).
Also nominated - East Division Offense - Charlie Frye, Akron, QB (31-49 passing (63.2%) for 372 yards and a touchdown at Wisconsin. Engineered second half scoring drives of 84, 76 and 91 yards, completing 19-25 passes in the final 30 minutes).
Defense - Pete Bratley, Ohio, ILB(career-high 11 tackles in first career start and forced a fumble at Iowa State).
Special Teams - Ben Lewis, Marshall, PK (3-3 on PATs and a 37-yard field goal at Tennessee).
