KEY GAMES FOR BOTH TEAMS
The Falcons and Huskies were both among the preseason favorites to contend for the MAC West title and will look to stay in the hunt on Saturday. BGSU is 4-1 at home this season, while NIU is 0-4 in true road games and 1-7 overall away from home. Both posted long winning streaks in the league last season and NIU boasts several key players from a team which won 10 of 11 MAC games during one stretch, while the Falcons have all five starters back from a squad which led the MAC West at the midway point, last season, with a 6-3 ledger.
THE SERIES WITH THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois holds a 22-20 series lead and snapped a six-game Falcon winning streak with their 63-46 win at Anderson Arena last year. Earlier last season, Cory Eyink's layup with 6.5 seconds left gave BGSU a 64-63 win in DeKalb.
WRAPPING UP BALL STATE
The Falcons shot a season-high 31 free throw attempts, while the Cardinals shot 35 from the line. In three MAC games this season, BGSU is sending its opponent to the line an average of 35.6 times per game as opposed to 22.6 times per game in non-conference contests. BGSU is going to the line 28.3 times in MAC games and 19.6 times per game in non-league tilts. The Falcons are the top free throw shooting team in the MAC averaging 78.3% from the line.
Freshman Isaac Rosefelt scored his first career-basket, freshman center Matt Lefeld had a season-high three rebounds, and freshman guard Chris Hobson added five points.
Sophomore guard Cole Magner had five points in 12 minutes of action.
Sophomore guard Ron Lewis led BGSU with 17 points and senior center Kevin Netter added 16.
