CLEVELAND, Ohio - A Bowling Green State University women's basketball home game will be part of the Mid-American Conference's television package for the 2004-05 season. The conference office announced the TV package at the MAC basketball media gathering at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland.
The Falcons' game vs. Ohio University, scheduled for Feb. 5 at Anderson Arena, will be televised as part of the league's seven-game package on Fox Sports Net Ohio. Start time for the game has been moved to 2:00 p.m. This is a change from the previously published start time listed in the media guide, schedule cards and posters and season ticket information.
Comcast Local will also air the game, with additional clearances possibly being announced at a later date.
MAC Commissioner Rick Chryst announced a 15-game women's basketball package that includes the Kraft MAC Tournament semifinal and championship games at Gund Arena in Cleveland. Ten of the games will appear on Fox Sports Net Ohio and Comcast Local, with Comcast televising five additional games.
This year's package will feature at least one appearance by all 13 schools and more than doubles the league's packages in each of the past two seasons (7 games in 2002-03 and 6 in 2003-04). Last year, all three regular-season games were decided by five points or less, while two of the three tournament contests were also settled by five points or less.
The league will produce a seven-game regular season package on FSN Ohio that kicks off on Sunday, January 30 as defending MAC regular season champion Miami travels to Ball State. Five other cross-divisional games follow as the Falcons host Ohio (Feb. 5), BSU travels to Marshall (Feb. 13), Kent State is at Toledo (Feb. 19), Central Michigan hosts Akron (Feb. 21) and Northern Illinois goes to Buffalo (Feb. 26). The regular season package closes on March 1 as Eastern Michigan visits UT.
Comcast Local is producing five games of its own that will include two conference games and three non-conference contests.
The regular season schedule leads up to the 2005 Kraft MAC Tournament at Gund Arena, which is hosting the event for the fifth consecutive season. The semifinals and the championship games of the 24th annual league tournament will be carried on Fox Sports Net Ohio and Comcast Local, with additional clearances to be announced at a later date. Semifinal action is set for Friday, Mar. 11 at noon and 2:30 p.m., while the title game is slated for a 1 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, Mar. 12.
Last season, BGSU appeared in three of the six televised games, winning two in dramatic fashion. The Falcons' late-season overtime win at BSU was aired as part of the regular-season TV package, and BGSU's last-second win over regular-season champion Miami in the semifinal round of the league tournament also was televised. BG's third appearance came in the championship-game loss to EMU.
