Orange Squad Steals The Show At Annual Scrimmage

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics program opened their 2005 schedule with the annual Brown & Orange scrimmage Saturday afternoon, with the Orange squad claiming victory 180.375-179.775. Freshman Jholeen Ponce led the Orange team with a 37.900 in the all-around.
While Ponce finished second in the all-around, a pair of seniors, Breanne Metzger (38.325) and Kristin DiPietro (37.875) placed first and third as members of the Brown squad.
Top performances on the vault included Ponce (9.75), Metzger (9.65), freshman Jacquelyn Bernhardt (9.65) and junior Erin McCollam (9.65).
Junior Jessica Bradley led the Brown squad on the bars, as she captured the individual title with a 9.825. Sophomore Sakura Tomita placed second with a 9.65.
The Orange squad continue to rack up the score by capturing both first and third place on the beam with the help of a pair of freshman in Jayme Stambaugh (9.75) and Melissa Stutzman (9.65). The Brown squad was also led by a freshman. Jessica Ewart was tops on the Brown side with a 9.70.
Ponce brought home top honors on the floor exercise as well. This time posting a meet-high score of 9.875. Metzger and McCollam finished in a tie for second at 9.825.
Up next for BGSU is a trip to Lexington, Kentucky for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the Wildcats, before returning home to square off with Ball State on Sunday, January 16 at 2:00 p.m.
