Mobile, Alabama - The Bowling Green State Univeristy football team enjoyed its fourth day in Mobile and participated a full schedule of activities.
The Falcons attended a 7 a.m. breakfast sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Former University of Colorado football coach Bill McCartney spoke in front of a crowd of about 500, including both teams.
The Falcons held a 90-minute workout at UMS-Wright Prep School. The team worked out in uppers and shorts. The largest crowd of the week, approximately 200, watched the Falcon practice session.
Members of the team had the option of attending the Coors Basketball Classic featuring South Carolina against East Carolina and host South Alabama taking on Southern Miss. The South Carolina basketball team stayed at the same hotel as the BGSU traveling party, the Mobile Marriott.
It was "Wives Day Out" as many of the spouses of the traveling party enjoyed a tour of museums and other historical sites in and around Mobile. Later in the evening, many of the families took in a Christmas light show.
Notes The Falcons defeated Memphis, 13,512 to 12,563 to capture the AMF Bowling Challenge. The MAC is now 3-0 in the bowling tournament and the winner of that event has gone on to also win the football game.
The ESPN crew broadcasting the game, including Mark Jones, Bob Davie and Holly Rowe were able to take in practice and meet with Coach Brandon, Assistant Head Coach Tim Beckman and offensive coordinator Greg Studrawa for about 20 minutes each in preparation for Wednesday's telecast. The group also met with Jovon Burkes, Keon Newson, Scott Mruczkowski and Omar Jacobs.
Jacobs filmed a special feature to air prior to Wednesday night's game with Holly Rowe. In addition, he also filmed a promotion for bowl week on ESPN.
Each senior on the team was carried off the field after practice on piggyback to signify the player's final practice session as a Falcon. Tomorrow the Falcons will have a final walk-through at Ladd Peebles Stadium early in the afternoon.
