CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University women's basketball sophomore Liz Honegger has been named a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Dec. 6). Honegger earns the honor for the first time this season and the third time in her Falcon career.
Honegger, a native of Lafayette, Ind., averaged a double-double last week, with 14.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, as the Falcons went 2-1. On the week, Honegger tied for the team scoring lead, and paced the Brown and Orange in rebounding, steals (3.3 spg) and blocked shots (3.3 bpg).
Honegger had a double-double as the Falcons opened the home schedule with Tuesday's (Nov. 30) 83-61 win over Youngstown State. She had 14 points and 15 rebounds, and added four blocks.
Then, Honegger had three blocked shots in each of the next two games, vs. Lehigh and Winthrop. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Brown Classic in Providence, R.I., for her performance in those two contests.
In Saturday's (Dec. 4) narrow 77-74 loss to Lehigh, Honegger was 5-for-9 from the field en route to 11 points and five rebounds. The next day, in BG's 74-52 win over Winthrop, she went 7-for-10 from the floor, and had her second double-double of the week, with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She also tied her career best with six steals vs. the Lady Eagles.
Honegger, in just over a year with the Falcons, has moved into fourth place on the BGSU career list for blocked shots, and now has 64 in her tenure.
On the season, Honegger leads the Falcons in scoring (14.0 ppg), rebounding (9.0 rpg), steals (2.8 spg) and blocks (2.3 bpg).
Honegger shares this week's MAC West Division Player-of-the-Week honor with Eastern Michigan's Ryan Coleman. Marshall's Modupe Ishola was the East Division P-O-W.
The Falcons (3-3) of head coach Curt Miller hit the road for another tournament this weekend, heading to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Lobo Classic. BGSU will face host New Mexico in Friday's (Dec. 10) game, set to begin at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Then, the Falcons will face either Utah State or San Diego the following evening.
