Northern Illinois holds an 11-10 series advantage over BGSU, after the Falcons' road win on Jan. 10.
HOUSE OF HORRORS (also titled: A 'ROSE' ON VALENTINE'S DAY)
Falcon fans with weak stomachs may want to skip to the next paragraph ... OK, we warned you ... on Valentine's Day, BGSU hopes for a rosier result than the outcome of the last trip to Rose Arena ... in last year's meeting in Mt. Pleasant (Feb. 5, 2003), the host Chippewas shot just .260 from the field, making only 13 shots, and scored a total of just 42 points ... but, Central still won by double digits, in a 42-30 verdict ... the Falcons' point total was a school record-low ... BGSU made only 11 baskets and shot just .234 from the floor ... each team went 5-of-25 in the second half ... neither team had a double-digit scorer in the game ... on no fewer than four occasions, the Falcons held Central scoreless for five minutes or longer ... CMU went without a point for stretches of 5:07, 6:09, 6:42 and 5:14 ... the middle two droughts came back to back, as a layup late in the first half marked the only points for the Chippewas in a span of 12:51 ... but, BGSU went 12:14 without a field goal in the second half, and also had a 5:49 scoreless slump spanning the end of the first half and the start of the second ... let us never speak of that day again.
LAST TIME OUT

A FEW MORE NOTES FROM THE OHIO GAME

BGSU has not had a winning record since the WNIT team of 1997-98 (21-8 overall), and the Falcons have not finished MAC play on the positive side of .500 since 1998-99 (9-7).
AUSTIN'S BUZZER BEATER BESTS BRONCOS
Senior Lindsay Austin hit a jumper in the lane as time expired, giving the Falcons a 69-67 win over MAC-leading Western Michigan last Saturday (Feb. 7) ... with the game tied and the clock winding down, Austin got the ball at the top of the three-point arc ... she drove to her left, got herself into the lane and took a jumper from approximately 10 feet away ... the ball hit the rim, glanced off the backboard, hit the rim again as the buzzer sounded, and dropped through, sparking a wild celebration among the BGSU players and Falcon faithful ... Austin's late heroics came on the heels of her school-record 10 steals against the leaders of the MAC's other division, Miami ... for her efforts, Austin was named both the MAC Player of the Week and the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
HOME COOKIN': BGSU HOLDING SERVE AT HOME ...
The Falcons have a record of 7-2 at home, including a MAC mark of 4-1 at Anderson Arena this year ... BGSU's home win total is the highest since the 1998-99 season, when the Falcons went 8-4 ... the Falcons are looking for the first winning MAC home record in three years.
...AND LOOKING TO STEAL SOME ON THE ROAD
After just two games, the Falcons had surpassed last season's total of MAC road victories ... BGSU is currently 3-2 in conference road games this season ... last winter, the Brown and Orange went 1-7 in MAC games away from home, with only a three-point win at Akron (65-62) going in the plus column for the Falcons ... overall, the Falcons are 5-5 in road games this year, and BG is 7-5 in all games played away from home.
FALCONS' GAME VS. KENT STATE TO START AT 1:00 P.M.
The starting time for the Falcons' game vs. Kent State has been set ... BGSU will face the Golden Flashes on Sat., Feb. 21, in a 1:00 p.m. tipoff at Anderson Arena ... the game will be part of a doubleheader at Anderson -- the fifth DH this season -- with the Falcon men taking on Youngstown State at 3:30 p.m. ... the latter game is a part of ESPN Bracket Buster Saturday.
GOOD START
The Falcons enter the CMU game with an overall record of 14-7 and a MAC mark of 7-3 ... how long, you ask, has it been since a BG team had such a solid start to the season?
START ME UP (THE CAREER STARTS LIST)
Senior Lindsay Austin's starting assignment at Ohio was the 100th of her career, ranking her fifth on that Falcon career list ... with at least seven games remaining (six regular-season games plus the MAC Tournament's first round), Austin has a chance to move into second place on the all-time list, currently held by Susie Cassell (106 games) ... Jackie Motycka holds the BGSU record with 115 games started.
AUSTIN COULD ENTER UNCHARTED WATERS
Senior Lindsay Austin is on a number of other BGSU career lists, and has a chance to go where no Falcon has gone before ... she enters the CMU game with career totals of 899 points, 453 assists and 214 steals ... Austin became just the fourth player in school history to reach the 400 career assists barrier, and -- after her school-record total of 10 steals in the Miami game (Feb. 3) -- now ranks third in career steals at BG ... Austin is just four steals behind second-place Dee Knoblauch (218 from 1979-83), and is 27 away from school record-holder Lori Albers (241 from 1989-94) ... Austin also has an outside chance to crack the 1,000-point barrier ... no Falcon ever has totalled 1,000 points and 400 assists in a career, much less 200 steals as well ... only one BGSU player, Judit Lendvay (1989-93), had 1,000 points (1,078) and as many as 300 assists (304) ... Austin is one of only two players (joining Susie Cassell) to be ranked among the top-five on the career games started, assists and steals charts at BG.
WENZEL APPROACHING 1,000 POINTS
Falcon senior Stefanie Wenzel has a chance to reach the 1,000-point plateau for her career ... Wenzel enters the CMU game with a career total of 960 points, ranking her 18th on the BGSU career scoring list ... 924 of those points have come since her freshman year, an average of 12.0 points per game over the last two-plus seasons ... the lone returnee to have averaged double digits in scoring in each of the last two years, Wenzel had 15 games of 10 or more points last year, the most among returning Falcons ... already, she has topped that total this season, with double-digit efforts in a team-high 18 of BGSU's 21 games ... her 23-point effort vs. Western Michigan upped her career scoring average into double figures, and she now averages 10.3 ppg through 93 career games.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE...
Freshman Liz Honegger had 16 points and 14 rebounds in the win at Ohio (Feb. 11), for her third double-double of the season ... a total of five different BGSU players have had at least one double-double this year to date ... freshman Ali Mann and senior Lindsay Austin are tied for the team lead with five apiece, while freshman Megan Thorburn (one) and senior Stefanie Wenzel (one) also have turned the trick at least once in 2003-04.
...DOUBLE YOUR FUN
As mentioned, Lindsay Austin and Ali Mann each have five double-doubles on the year to date ... that total is the highest for a BGSU player in a season in four years, since Francine Miller had nine in 1999-2000 ... as a team, the Falcons have 15 double-doubles, after totalling four during all of last season ... the team total is BGSU's highest since the 1997-98 season.
BGSU'S BOARDWORK PAYING OFF
Last year, the Falcons held a rebounding advantage just four times in 28 games ... in 2003-04, BG has BEEN outrebounded only six times in 20 contests ... the Falcons have outboarded the opponent 13 times, battling to a draw in two other games ... BG has a +2.8 rebounding margin this season to date (+2.6 in MAC games).
BOARDWORK PAYING OFF, PART II
BGSU, as mentioned, has had more rebounds than the opposition 13 times in 21 games in 2003-04, and the Falcons are 10-3 in such contests ... the Brown and Orange had held the rebounding advantage only nine times (in 56 games) over the previous two years, going 7-2 in such games (4-0 in 2002-03, 3-2 in 2001-02).
