FALCONS BEGIN FOUR-GAME HOMESTAND
The Falcons are beginning a four-game homestand. Beginning with the 2004 Bracket Buster game with Youngstown State on Saturday, the Falcons will play four games in nine days in Anderson Arena before concluding the MAC regular season at Eastern Michigan, March 6. If the MAC Tournament were to begin today, BGSU would be in a three-way tie for the fifth seed.
THE SERIES WITH THE PENGUINS
The Falcons and Penguins will be meeting for the first time since the 1991-92 season and for the first time at Anderson Arena since the 1990-91 campaign. BGSU holds a 7-2 lead in the series. As part of the Bracket Buster agreement, BGSU will play a game next season in Youngstown. YSU is seventh in the Horizon League with a 4-10 record.
DEFENSE CARRIES FALCONS OVER HUSKIES
BGSU held Northern Illinois scoreless over the final 9:20 of the first half and broke open a tie game with an 18-0 run as BGSU posted a 69-52 win Wednesday night in DeKalb. The Falcons held the Huskies to one of 17 shooting from two-point range in the first half.
DON'T OVERLOOK Ron Lewis FOR ALL-MAC HONORS
Sophomore Ron Lewis has established himself as the premier sophomore scorer in the MAC averaging 17.9 points per game, a 4.4-point differential over any other second-year player in the league. In the last seven games, he is shooting 50.0% from three-point range (17/34). Lewis is fourth in the MAC in scoring, third in free throw shooting (81.7) and has made more free throws than any player in the league (149). His 780 career points scored is the second-highest total for a BGSU sophomore in school-history trailing only Falcon career leader Anthony Stacey who scored 890 points in his first two seasons. Lewis is the seventh leading scorer in the nation for a sophomore.
EYINK HOLDS THE HOT HAND
Junior Cory Eyink was inserted into the starting lineup three games ago and has responded with three double-digit scoring efforts in a row for the first time in his career. He has averaged 14 points in the last three games and has shot 51.0 percent from the field. From long distance, Eyink is shooting 55.0 percent from long range (11/20) in the last four games.
ALMANSON LEAD STRONG BENCH EFFORT
Junior Josh Almanson had 18 points to lead a 29-point effort by the Falcon bench at NIU. Sophomore Germain Fitch added seven points.
