MARIETTA, Ga. - Sophomore Lindsay Heimrich hit her first collegiate homerun, lifting the Bowling Green State University softball team to a 1-0 win over the University of Tulsa Friday night (March 19). The game was part of the Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-10 on the season, and BGSU finishes Friday play with a 2-0 record in the tournament. The Golden Hurricane drop to 22-11 on the year.
For the ninth time in 18 games this season, the Falcons participated in a shutout. And, for the third time in the last four games, the contest ended in a 1-0 result. But, for the first time in each case, the Brown and Orange came out on the winning end.
Heimrich's homer off Ami Day came with two outs in the fifth inning. BGSU had only four hits off Day, but Falcon sophomore Liz Vrabel allowed just five hits in the complete-game shutout, her first of the season. Vrabel recorded six strikeouts.
BGSU will continue play in the Buzz Classic on Saturday (March 20), facing Eastern Illinois and Georgia State. The top-12 teams in the 25-team tourney will qualify for bracket play, which begins Saturday evening.
