IN THE FIRST ROUND
Since expanding to 13 teams, BGSU has posted a 2-0 record in first round MAC Tournament games. The Falcons defeated Western Michigan at home winning 74-68 in 2001 and won at Ball State, 90-81 in 2003.
GETTING BACK TO THE GUND
BGSU will be looking to return to Cleveland's Gund Arena for the fifth straight year. BGSU, Miami, Marshall, Kent State, and Central Michigan are the only MAC schools to advance to Cleveland each of the four years the tournament has been at Gund Arena.
LEWIS, FALCONS HAVE RECORD NIGHT AT THE LINE
The Falcons set a MAC and school record by making all 25 free throws at Eastern Michigan. They broke the old mark of 21/21 set by Ohio against Kent State on March 12, 1989. The NCAA record is 34 for 34 in a game set by UC Irvine in 1981 and matched by Samford in 1990.
Sophomore Ron Lewis established a school record by making all 18 of his free throw attempts. He was one shy of the MAC record of 19/19 set by Geno Ford against Eastern Michigan on February 2, 1997. The NCAA record is 24 for 24 set by Arlen Clark of Oklahoma State against Colorado in 1959. Lewis is the MAC leader in free throws made this season with 182. He also is the top scoring sophomore in the MAC averaging 17 points per game. As a team, the Falcons will likely set a new single-season BGSU record as they lead the MAC by making 77.9 percent of their charity tosses. The 1964-65 team made 75.3 percent of its free throw attempts.
LEWIS HAS MAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
In two games as a freshman, Lewis averaged 29 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. He had 28 points and seven boards in the first round against Ball State and 30 points and five rebounds against Central Michigan. He set MAC Tournament records by making 22 of 25 free throw attempts against Ball State as the Falcons set a tournament record by sinking 37 charity tosses in the road win against the Cardinals, last season. His 37 overall free throws made last year set a new tournament record.
