Maloney, Romer Named to Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference office has released the 2004 Academic All-MAC Women's Tennis Team, and Bowling Green State University was the lone school to have two representatives. Both senior Lisa Maloney and sophomore Heidi Romer were named to the team, it was announced Thursday (April 29).
The six-member team is the result of voting by the faculty athletic representatives at the 10 member tennis institutions sponsoring the sport.
Alice Sukner of league champion Marshall and Jill Wieman of Ball State each earned the honor for the second-consecutive season. Sukner was also a first-team all-MAC selection, as voted by the MAC head coaches.

The honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
The Falcons recently concluded the season with an overall dual-match record of 10-14, and a MAC regular-season mark of 3-6. Maloney, who has a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average as an early childhood studies major, primarily played at the second singles flight and the top doubles flight.
Romer, also an early childhood studies major, has a 3.93 cumulative GPA to date. She played mainly at the fifth singles flight and the second doubles flight down the stretch.
