LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Bowling Green State University student-athlete Lindsay Heimrich (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) has been named to the 2004 Academic All-District IV University Division Softball Team. Heimrich, a sophomore, was named to the first team, it was announced Thursday (May 13).
As a first-team selection, Heimrich's name now will be placed on the Academic All-America ballot. She maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a journalism major.
The district team is made up of student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or important reserve on the team, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
Heimrich, who led the Falcons with two hits in Thursday's MAC Tournament opener vs. Western Michigan, increased her batting average to .315 on the season. She ranks third on the Falcons in that category, and also has 28 runs, 54 hits (including 13 doubles) and 24 runs batted in on the year.
A first baseman/pitcher, she has a 4-4 record in the circle, having allowed opponents to hit just .196 against her. Heimrich has an earned-run average of 1.49. Her four wins include a no-hitter against Oakland. She is one of a select few players to be ranked among the league's top-20 in both batting and pitching, ranking 17th in the MAC in batting average and fifth in ERA.
The Falcons of head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw, following Thursday's 3-0 setback to WMU, now prepare to face top-seeded Central Michigan University in an elimination game Friday (May 14). BGSU will meet Central in the day's second game, set for a 1:30 p.m. start at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
