Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2004 men's golf Academic All-MAC team Wednesday, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. The team honors five student-athletes.
Redshirt-junior Craig Pickerel was named to the team for the second-straight season and is the only repeat selection in the group, as the rest of the squad were voted on for the first time in their careers. The Genoa, Ohio native holds a 3.84 grade-point-average in architectural design. In 2003, he was named the BGSU Male Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Pickerel tied for 19th place at last week's MAC Championships in Westerville, Ohio, with a 54-hole score of 225 (71-79-75). It was his best finish in three years at the MAC Tournament. Pickerel finished the season tied for second on the team with a 75.79 average in 38 rounds.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
