
Falcons Split Against WMU on Saturday

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green split a doubleheader against Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one, 11-6, and winning the nightcap, 14-9. The Falcons combined to pound out 30 hits in the two games combined while WMU had 23 hits.
In game one, the Broncos used three big innings to put away the Falcons. WMU plated three runs in the first inning, three in the fifth inning, and five in the seventh inning for its 11 runs.
BGSU scored a run in the first inning off of a Jimmy Lipari RBI-single and then tied the game at 3-3 with two runs in the third inning. The two runs came via a home run by Nolan Reimold with Jeff Warnock on third base. It was Reimold's first of two home runs on the day and his 12th of the season.
After WMU scored three runs in the fifth inning for a 6-3 lead, the Falcons cut its deficit to 6-4 with a solo home run by Eric Lawson that hit the left-field foul pole. The Broncos broke the game open with five runs in the seventh inning, three coming off a bases-clearing triple by Andy Roy.
The Falcons plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh off a Reimold RBI-single and a Lipari RBI-single to cut the deficit to five runs, but that was as close as the home team could get.
Starter Keith Laughlin (3-3) suffered the loss, giving up eight runs (seven earned) in 6.2 innings. He allowed 10 hits while walking one and striking out five. Junior Matt Hundley entered in the seventh inning and gave up three runs in just a third of an inning. Freshman Dan Horvath pitched the final two innings of the game, giving up just two hits with no runs and one walk.
Lipari was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Andy Hudak was 3-for-4, Reimold was 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs, Warnock was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and Lawson was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
In game two, it was BGSU taking advantage of the big innings by scoring four in the first frame and five in the sixth inning. BGSU ripped 16 base hits, including seven for extra bases and four for home runs. Reimold added his second home run of the day and 13th of the year in the first inning (three-run shot), Hudak followed with a solo blast of his own after Reimold, Josh Stewart hit his first career home run in the seventh inning, and David Barkholz added a solo blast in the eighth inning.
WMU scored all nine of their runs in the first three innings, including six in the third inning for a 9-5 lead. However, redshirt-freshman Greg Becker (1-1) relieved starter Burke Badenhop in the third inning and shut the Broncos down. Becker pitched 6.1 innings of relief and scattered just three hits, allowing one run, and striking out five batters to pick up his first collegiate victory.
Stewart was 4-for-5 with four runs scored in game two, while Hudak was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Reimold ended with five RBIs in the game.
The game two victory was BGSU Coach Danny Schmitz' career win 375 in 14 years at the helm in Bowling Green.
BGSU is now 27-19 overall and 12-11 in the Mid-American Conference. WMU is 21-32 overall and 7-16 in the MAC. BGSU ends its regular season on Sunday, May 23, at 1 p.m. against WMU. It will be senior day at Warren Steller Field with five Falcons seniors being recognized prior to the game (David Barkholz, Dino Cowell, Ryan Lindquist, Neil Schmitz, and Spencer Schmitz).

* BGSU Coach Danny Schmitz now has a career record of 375-344-4 (.521 pct.) in 14 years, including 200 MAC victories. He is the 10th winning coach in MAC history.
* SO Nolan Reimold (12 games), Jimmy Lipari (10 games), and Eric Lawson (10 games) each extended their hitting streaks in Saturday's two games. Reimold finished the day 4-for-9 with one double and two home runs for eight RBIs. Lipari was 5-for-8 with two RBIs and Lawson was 2-for-5 with one solo home run vs. WMU on Saturday.
* Over Nolan Reimold's 12-game hitting streak, the sophomore is batting .396 with six doubles, four home runs, 22 RBIs, and 10 runs scored. His slugging pct. during that span is an amazing .771 pct.
* JR Andy Hudak had a big day against the Broncos on Saturday, finishing 6-for-9 with one homer and two RBIs in two games.
* The Falcons recorded their 10th-straight game with double-digit hit totals on Saturday, pounding out 14 hits in game one and 16 hits in game two. BGSU is hitting .364 as a team during that stretch with 20 doubles, two triples, and nine home runs.
